The purpose of this website is to clarify the history of Porsche 917-043 ‘The Hippie Car’ and collect information for possible use in a forthcoming book on the SERA Porsche 917s, written by motoring and motorsport writer Doug Nye, with assistance from notable marque experts.

This will be the first book focusing on these legendary versions of the iconic Porsche 917. Using previously unpublished sources and material, the book will cover the development and racing history of each of the five SERA 917 cars. The book will inform and educate enthusiasts and casual readers alike.

All of the information on this website is corroborated in Porsche factory archive documents, Automobile de la Quest (ACO) documents, the Gulf-Wyer racing team documents, The Christies catalogue from the 1998 Monterey Jet Center auction, as well as the physical evidence observed on 917-043 and 917-044.
